Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer | 552 pages | Published 2014 by Feiwel & Friends | Teen SciFi/Fantasy
Summary:
Even in the future. there are damsels in distress...
In the third installment of the Lunar chronicles, Cress, having risked everything to warn Cinder of Queen Levana's evil plan, has a slight problem. She's been imprisoned on a satellite since childhood and has only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress a great hacker. Unfortunately, she's just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress involving Cinder, Captain Thorne, Scarlet, and Wolf goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes as a high price. Meanwhile, Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has (courtesy of Goodreads).
My thoughts:
Read February 19-21, 2016, 5 stars
This was my favorite one yet! Cress is the sweetest, most innocent creature to ever figuratively walk the Earth. She’s so unapologetically romantic, which makes sense because she was stuck, alone, in a satellite for half her life. I also didn’t really like Thorne until he was with Cress. Her romanticism makes him seem less annoying, for sure. I also always wondered, before I read these books and only saw them on the shelves at my library, how “Cress” equated to “Rapunzel.” Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.
There are quite a few surprises that never even crossed my mind until they were revealed. Good thing I try to focus on spoiler-free reviews, right? I wrote a big reaction to one in my notebook and it’s just glaring me in the face... Anyway, I’m quickly witnessing Meyer’s writing improve throughout this series and I’m looking forward to her upcoming series’.
I think this is my favorite because so much happened, and I spent chapters wondering where other characters were and what was happening to them. I love how Meyer keeps the reader somewhat in the dark for chapters at a time. I’m way too excited to start Winter, but I have to read Fairest first. I think backtracking and learning about Levana, feeling for Levana will make the end of this series feel complete, rather than reading it after Winter. I can’t wait to see how everything comes together, and hoping no one important dies...
