I could not wait to read this! I didn’t even wait to finish Cinder to order this from my library. I started it the next day and finished it within 24 hours. I love how fast these books move. I feel like it’s taking forever, then I realize I’m almost done.
My first thoughts about Scarlet Benoit and her grandmother, Michelle, are that they remind me of Belle and her father from Beauty and the Beast. How everyone thinks they’re crazy and how Scarlet will defend her grandmother to the end. I found it really endearing.
I think Meyer does a great job of emphasizing dedication and emotion between characters. Their feelings are relatable and not over the top. It always makes sense and I can’t help but feel for these people.
When I was reading Cinder, I called a lot of the twists and surprises, but I didn’t as much in Scarlet, and I really appreciated that. I also like that she lets me get to know the character before introducing new ones. There’s not an onslaught of people for me to remember. It helps me to keep a connection to them rather than forgetting who they are or why they’re important. And there are no unnecessary or unimportant characters in these books, which I love.
When I finished this, I pretended it didn’t end and immediately picked up Cress. I just imagined the end was just the end of a chapter. I’m so excited to find out where this story takes me. Only 4 more to go!
